District of Columbia New Business License Requirement

As of 2009 the District of Columbia requires companies that pay business taxes to apply for a Basic Business License (BBL).

Generally a business that has a tax identification number is required to obtain a BBL General Business License. However, some businesses might be exempt from applying for a General Business License, but they need to file an Exemption Request form. To find out if your company needs to apply for a Basic Business License or Exemption form and to get the necessary forms, contact Corporation Service Company www.cscglobal.com.
