There can be a gray area in business license laws between reselling tickets for face value and reselling tickets for profit, commonly know as “ticket scalping.” A man was ticketed in Tuscaloosa, AL for trying to resell his season tickets before a Crimson Tide football game. The Tuscaloosa Police Department has a policy that a business license is required for those reselling tickets. However, the city’s Department of Revenue interprets the law as being more lenient, requiring only those selling tickets as a “business practice” to be licensed.
