Last year the State of Pennsylvania took over the licensing of contractors from local municipalities. This change has left cities and towns looking for ways to plug holes in their revenues. The City of Hazleton has lost $57,300 from fees once paid by licensed contractors. One way the city is proposing to get back those fees is by requiring commercial contractors to be licensed by the city. The state currently licenses only residential contractors.
