The Economic Development Council for Manatee County, Florida has proposed a $1.2 million campaign to help attract new businesses from other states and potentially other countries. In an effort to fund the campaign, the Council has suggested a $35-per-year business license fee.
The new fee is estimated to generate $400,000, which would all go towards the new campaign. Business owners are split about the license fee. Several owners complained that the fee is just another hardship during tough economic times, while proponents say everyone needs to work together in order to create success for the county.
