Saugatuck city mayor Barry Johnson said that the city is considering eliminating the $150.00 business license fee because “to be a legitimate regulatory fee, it cannot be disguised as a tax.” The business license fee brings in about $24,000 for the city and the money is used for services the business community wants. The City Manager Kirk Harrier said that the business license should be around $15.00 which would be enough to cover the administrative cost of the license.
