The new business license tax in Jefferson County, Alabama is causing some confusion with business owners. It is now based on net income before taxes but previously it was based on monthly gross receipts. Also many large corporations used to be exempt from the county business license tax because they paid an Alabama business license tax. Those corporations are now required to file for both taxes.
