Majority of Arizona Employers Are Not Verifying Employees’ Legal Status

Two years ago the State of Arizona passed a law that requires all employers to use E-Verify, a free, federal managed system, to check the legal status of all new employees.  According to The Arizona Republic, hundreds of thousands of workers have been hired without being verified.  The report speculates that most of those businesses that have not signed up with E-Verify are small businesses and are not very likely to get caught.  Businesses that are found to employ illegal workers may lose their business license.  However, since the law took effect in 2008 no businesses have lost their licenses and only a few have faced sanctions.

Business license regulations now include employee verification in some areas. Corporation Service Company (CSC) can help identify what licenses and permits you may need.  Contact us at 800.927.9800 ext. 5077 or request a quote for a Business License Order.
