Private Career Schools in Washington Require School License

We’ve all heard the radio and TV promo adds.  ‘Are you stuck in a dead end job working long hours for little pay with no opportunity for advancement…?’  The spokesperson continues to frame the key message.  …’become a [insert profession] bartender, casino dealer, hypnotist, masseuse, dental technician…’

Private career schools provide a valuable service by offering affordable education, and often hands on experience.  They serve as a vital component of a local economy’s workforce development.

In Washington, private career schools are regulated by the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board.  Comprised of nine voting members from business, labor, and government, the board is also responsible for investigating student complaints.

Private Career School licensing through the Workforce Board is a thorough process which involves a number of steps including a brief phone interview/orientation, completion of an online application, submission of several items including: a business plan, program descriptions, the school’s enrollment agreement to name a few.
