St. Anthony, ID Considers Adding a City Business License

Most Idaho cities large and small have a city business license requirement.  One exception is the City of St. Anthony, which is now considering creating a city business license.  The decision to consider the business license was made in part by citizen concern expressed about a mobile ice cream vendor operating in the city.  Another reason for implementing a city business license would be to help the police and the chamber of commerce track what kind of businesses are operating in the city and to easily uncover who owns each business.

Business owner reaction to the city business license is mixed.  Most would be in favor of the license if the cost was reasonable and if fees paid would help improve business.  The next steps for the city are crucial as setting the fee structure will be a balancing act between pleasing business owners and increasing revenue for the city.
