The City of Van Buren, Arkansas currently has 34 lawn care companies licensed to do business in the city. In an effort to keep lawn debris out of the city drainage system the city’s Street Department is creating a pledge it hopes that licensed lawn care companies will sign. According to the Crawford County Press Argus-Courier, part of the pledge includes an agreement not to discharge any “types of vegetation on streets, curbs, gutters or sidewalks as well as not to blow, sweep or place vegetation into drainage ditches, culvers or boxes.”
There is no penalty for not signing the pledge, but those who do will get a special sticker to display on their vehicles. The purpose of the sticker is two fold, not only will it identify those who have signed the pledge, it will help the city’s code enforcement officers identify what companies have a business license.
Having stickers to identify licensed companies is a good idea. It can be a helpful aid to city officials to identify licensed businesses. But, more importantly it can be helpful to consumers, giving them peace of mind that they are working with a licensed company that will do a good job.
