Park Ridge, IL City Council To Vote On Fee Hike

The City Council in Park Ridge, Illinois will vote on Monday on whether to raise annual business license fees.  The proposal under consideration would double the existing fees for most business types.  Fees for businesses that require a health inspection such as restaurants would increase from $105 to $450 and license fees for coin operated machines would also double.

The city Chamber of Commerce opposes the increases and has heard from several business owners who are opposed to the increase.  According to the Park Ridge Herald-Advocate, Gail Haller, the executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, plans to present a statement to the council opposing any fee increases.

It is natural that business owners would be opposed to any fee increase.  However, while some business owners have complained to the Chamber of Commerce, none were present at the public discussion held by the City Council on Monday, September 27th.  Raising fees is a common way for a city government to increase revenue.
