Nevada Seeks Unlicensed Businesses

Usually we see a lot of stories on cities and towns tracking down unlicensed businessrs to help increase compliance and revenue. Now the State of Nevada is getting in on the action. Every business operating in Nevada must have a state business license. This license is administered by the Secretary of State’s office. Secretary of State Ross Miller is looking for a way to report and investigate businesses that do not have a license. Businesses that operate without a license in Nevada may have to pay penalties of up to $10,000.

The Nevada state business license is unique in that it is tied to the registration or qualification of a business entity in Nevada.  Unless exempted by state statute a person or entity must be registered with the state.  In order to be in compliance you must register and get a Certificate of Authority to do business in Nevada before starting your business.

By tracking down unlicensed businesses the state hopes to promote fairness.  Registering your business entity with the state government is the first thing you should do when you start a business.  Starting off on the right foot with your licenses can set you on a problem free path for the future.
