Fernley, NV Proposes Liquor License Code Change

The City of Fernley, Nevada, near Reno, is proposing several changes to its business license code including changing its liquor license regulations.  According to the Reno Gazette Journal, Fernley does not currently have any regulations controlling liquor licensing.  To come up with the proposed regulations the city looked at regulations for several other cities as well as state statutes.

The proposed regulations allow for special event and non-profit event licensing as well as traditional licensing for restaurants and retailers.  Proposed regulations also provide potential restrictions such as not licensing any convicted felons, illegal residents, persons of poor moral character and persons who have had a license revoked in the past.

Liquor licensing is usually a highly regulated and complicated process.  Adding this licensing requirement to city regulations will help the city not only increase revenue, but be better able to track liquor licenses in the city limits.  The key for the city will be to make the process easy to understand for potential licensees.
