Some Businesses Require Licensing at Federal Level

Most business are required to have the applicable business licenses required at state, county and municipality level to be able to operate the business in compliance with the jurisdictions’ requirements. There are also some types of businesses that in addition to the state, county and municipal business license requirements will be required to obtain licensing at federal level. Some of the activities regulated by a federal agency include transportation of animals, manufacturers and/or wholesalers of alcohol, airports and airlines, mining and drilling and nuclear energy. There are different federal departments that issue the required federal licenses. For example, the U.S. Department of Agriculture issues the licenses required for transporting animals, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau issues the licenses for manufacturers and/or wholesalers of alcohol, the Federal Aviation Administration issues the ones required for airports and airlines.”

With so many business license requirements and so many departments issuing licenses at different jurisdictions levels, it is important to know the licenses and permits needed before considering starting a business.
