In March of 2009, the Town Board of Windsor, CO discussed ways of developing a program that would create a database of all businesses in the town. One of the ideas suggested was to use business licenses as a way to track each business. Finally, last week the business license program took its first step as license applications were delivered to all business owners.
The cost of applying for a license will be $10 annually, which is the same cost of the sales tax license. City officials also note the business license is not meant to replace the sales tax license or liquor license that are already in place.
So far the program appears to be a success in the eyes of city officials. A centralized database of businesses is taking place, Windsor now has a business license program that is similar to surrounding communities and business owners have been quickly returning applications to obtain their license.
