The City of Kansas City is warning its residents to beware of door-to-door meat sales. According to Kansas City Info Zine, the city Health Department has received complaints that an unlicensed vendor has been selling meat from an unmarked truck. The Health Department is warning residents that any vendor selling food should not be trusted unless they can provide a copy of their food permit and business license. Properly licensed vendors must by law keep their products at safe temperatures and use proper food handling techniques.
Health Department officials further warn that meat sold by unlicensed vendors may be of poor quality, such as meat used to make pet food. Vendors will then claim it is high quality meat. The best advice is that if a vendor knocks on your door do not buy anything unless they can prove they are a legitimate business by showing you their business license.
