City Council members in East Wenatchee, Washington have discarded a proposal to increase business license fees. According to the Wenatchee World, the council thought that increasing fees would discourage business growth. The proposal did not even make it to a vote at the November 23rd council meeting, and will likely stay off the table until the council members want to reconsider it.
If the proposed fee increase would have been approved the city would have received an additional $12,460 per year by 2013. This added income is the reason that the city’s budget committee recommended the fees be looked at. Business license fees in East Wenatchee have not changed for 30 years.
