Firms of all sizes operating in the city of Murrieta, Cal., could soon be required to use an electronic program in order to apply for a business license.
Already, the E-Verify program, which is backed by federal authorities, has been implemented in a number of cities and towns across the state of California.
Now, the Southwest Riverside News Network has revealed that Murrieta city council is looking to follow the lead of its neighbors by approving an ordinance mandating that all companies, irrespective of size, use E-Verify when applying for a new or a renewed business license.
According to the news provider, council members first gave their tentative backing to such plans back in the summer.
However, only now have they ironed out an agreement that will offer local businesses greater protection from unjust penalties that could arise through the use of the system, which uses federal records to look into employee documentation.
