Potential home-based business owners outside Charlottesville in Virginia’s Albemarle County could soon be able to apply for their licenses to operate at a much reduced cost, it has been reported.
According to Charlottesville Tomorrow News Center, those in the area who are looking to run firms from their own homes could benefit from a set of amendments put forward by the planning commission.
Under the new guidelines, home occupation permits would be converted to a by-right use in the area.
Although entrepreneurs would still have to check with the county to ensure they are not violating the zoning code, it is hoped the changes will boost rural enterprise.
Joan McDowell, Charlottesville’s rural areas planner, noted that home occupation permits are required by many business license applicants.
“There are a couple of indicators that would lead you to need a home occupation [license],” she told the news provider.
“One would be if your business license lists your home as your base of business.”
Earlier this month, the county’s planning commission recommended that restrictions are put in place to limit the number of business licenses awarded to internet sweepstake cafes.
