Ashland Ore. artists could face paying for business license

Artists and craft-makers working in Ashland, Oregon, could face paying a business license fee in order to sell their work at city booths.

The Ashland City Council will meet early next month to discuss the changes, which would see the vendors paying $75 for the license.

However, artists selling their work for less than four days would not require a license, the Daily Tidings reported.

The non-profit markets that operate in the city do not have to pay for a business license, although the changes could see the vendors working at the sites requiring one, which has led to criticism from those concerned.

All business owners have to pay $75 for a license and a $50 annual renewal fee, with additional employees paying $5 to $10 fees.

Councilman Greg Lemhouse has suggested that people earning less than $10,000 a year should be exempt from the business fee.

He told the news provider: “These micro-businesses could eventually grow into larger operations. I would like to give them the chance.”
