A credit union auto buying service in Oregon has been found to have been operating without a business license for more than six years.
Autoland Inc. was discovered by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services to have been operating without a business license between November 2004 and March 2010, the Credit Union Times reported.
The company was given a state non-resident business license between 1999 and 2000 before becoming a resident business between 1999 and 2004. Since March 2010 it was licensed, but its corporate address is in the state of California.
The Department has assessed a $50,000 civil penalty against the company, which had sold 476 mechanical breakdown insurance policies on behalf of three insurers to Oregon customers during the time that it did not have a license to do so.
Autoland has more than eight million members at its 75 nationwide locations and sells more than $270 million worth of cars each year, the news provider noted.
