Va. start-ups could see ‘one-stop’ business licensing

Businesses setting up in Virginia could see the process of obtaining a business license made easier if a new bill is made into law.

The Senate and the House have passed a bill for local governments to set up ‘one-stop’ licensing programs, making the application process easier and cutting out large amounts of red tape that can make getting a license a long, drawn-out process.

Now, businesses are waiting on Governor Bob McDonnell to sign the bill into law.

Likely to be implemented from July 1st, new firms will be able to go to one location in a city to register for a business license and fill out state and local paperwork, such as tax forms.

Senator Chapman Petersen, who proposed the bill, commented: “This system saves time for business owners by consolidating governmental paperwork in one place.

“For example, as a small business, you can renew your car’s registration, obtain a business license and register for sales tax at one time.”
