Illinois officials consider new business license for restaurant

City officials in Beach Park, Illinois, are considering creating a new business license for a couple looking to open up a restaurant.

Danielle and Brett Behnke hope to open a family-friendly sports bar in the town, but mayor and liquor commissioner Milt Jensen is against the idea of approving a new Class A liquor permit.

There are currently three businesses in the city that have a Class A permit and Mr. Jensen told the News Sun-Times: “We can’t tolerate more bars. We don’t need that. Bars are different now than they were years ago. They used to be family places.”

However, the Behnkes are eager to push the family-friendly aspect of the restaurant, which will attract couples with children. It will also have pool tables, dart leagues and ten televisions.

The couple could be given a Class H business license, the news provider stated, which would require 50 per cent more of the profits to come from food sales, although alcohol could also be sold.
