Master business license for all Washington firms?

Businesses in Washington could be required to obtain a single master business license if the change goes ahead.

The state Department of Licensing is considering changes in the city of Port Angeles that would require the department to process the business licenses of every company, issuing one license that covers all necessary permits, including licenses for other cities if the business operates in more than one place.

However, The Peninsula Daily News reported that not all businesses in Port Angeles are currently required to have a business license. Indeed, there are just 150 businesses that have paid the $25 license fee and many firms in the city have already opposed a change to the ordinance that would make it necessary for all businesses to have one.

Every business operating in the city does have to pay a one-off fee of $15 to register with the state, but the city council had considered requiring firms to obtain a businesses license to create a directory of businesses in the area.
