An employee of La Mesa City Hall has discovered that Comic-Con, the San Diego Comic Convention, has been operating in the area without a business license.
Jolene Cayas read an article about the convention’s office in La Mesa in the San Diego Union-Tribune and contacted the organization to make it aware of the ordinance for a business license.
According to the Poway Patch, she has given Comic-Con 30 days to apply for a new business license and work legally in the city.
However, the company has not made any efforts yet to obtain a permit, which costs $35, with $3 per employee. The deadline is June 2nd.
The article reported that the offices have been used by Comic-Con for five years and employ 25 people.
One of San Diego’s biggest events, Comic-Con attracts around 130,000 visitors and is used by Hollywood as a platform to promote new comic book movies worth millions of dollars.
