Any business license fee increases in Fairfax County, Virginia, are likely to go to employee’s pay rises, the Washington Examiner reports.
County workers have not had a salary increase for three years and the county’s budget recommends that additional revenue received by the end of the 2011 fiscal year would go towards staff pay.
The news provider reported that revenues collected from sales and business taxes would likely cover the $10 million needed to give employees a 1.12 percent pay rise.
Susan Datta, the county’s chief financial officer, explained that sales tax receipts are expected to be higher than the average $140-$150 million brought in each year. Business, professional, occupational and license taxes will also exceed their average $140 million, she said.
Additional revenue will also go towards Fairfax’s savings to help the region recover from the economic downturn.
Last year, $60 million extra was generated and went to a reserve fund and future pension requirements, the news source stated.
