Wis. hotel faces business license revocation

A hotel in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, could face losing its bar, restaurant and hotel business licenses if it does not pay its taxes.

City officials claim the City Center Hotel has not paid all of its property taxes and owes $41,808. It has been given until Friday, July 1, to pay the bill.

The Post Crescent reported that the hotel has not made its monthly hotel room tax payments for February or April.

In the meantime, the hotel’s new liquor license will not be released and the restaurant, hotel operators and swimming pool licenses will not be granted by the Oshkosh Health Department.

However, the hotel’s owners have requested a liquor permit in order to operate during an annual aviation convention in order to raise money to pay the taxes.

City Manager Mark Rohloff told the news provider that the request was declined. “I’m not giving them any special treatment even though I recognize how important the City Center Hotel is to the overall downtown landscape,” he said. “I can’t allow them to live by a separate set of rules.”
