Changes to the way business licenses are issued in Enumclaw, Washington, are on hold.
The city council chose on Monday, July 25, to postpone talks about the amendment, which would see all business licensing duties handed over to the state of Washington.
One of the reasons for the delay was because the proposals had only been made two weeks ago, the Enumclaw Courier Herald reported.
Put forward by community development director Erica Shook, the proposals would see business license applications handled online if the system were state-run, making the process easier for business owners.
Other advantages to some businesses, she argued, would be that all firms operating in the city would have to obtain a business license, making all firms equal in the city.
Currently, only businesses with an address in the city limits of Enumclaw are required to have a permit.
What’s more, Ms. Shook said that removing licensing responsibilities from the city would cut 90 to 120 hours of staff time each year, giving them more time to focus on other duties.
