The number of applications for business licenses has dwindled during the month of June in Canton, Georgia.
Figures show that there were 124 new permits issued last month, compared to 131 in June of last year. Last month, 159 business licenses were approved in the city.
The decline has been attributed, in part, to the start of the summer vacation, with Ben Looper, chairman of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce board of directors, predicting the numbers will start to rise again in August.
However, he told the Cherokee Tribune that economic uncertainty remains and is holding some people back from setting up their own business.
On a positive note, there have been 1,104 new licenses issued this year so far, which is more than the number issued by this point in the year in 2010 (998).
Elsewhere, Cherokee County issued 95 permits in June, which is down from 111 in May. Woodstock issued 14 licenses, a slight decline from 15 in the previous month.
