Food seller found abusing business license

A food seller has been found in violation of its business license requirements by preparing food outside.

An investigation by the Chicago Tribune alerted the city’s health department after it found that Home Bakery and Festivals was preparing food in hot temperatures outside before serving it at weekend events.

The business, run by Peter Matyszewski, does have a business license to sell food at special events.

However, Dr. Cortland Lohff from the city’s health department said that preparing food outdoors is “not acceptable” and said that the city will now conduct its own inspection.

According to the news provider, the business had three annual health inspections before it opened ahead of the summer festival season. It has a permit valid for at least seven events.

On one of the days the Tribune conducted its investigation, temperatures reached near 100 degrees and workers wore no hairnets or plastic gloves.
