Business license change removed from ballot

A proposal to change business license fees has been removed from the city of Brawley’s November ballot.

City officials decided that the measure to increase fees could have confused voters who will also have to consider changes to utility taxes on the same ballot, which takes place on November 8th.

The Imperial Valley Press reported that the measure could, however, be put up for a vote in the next election.

Councilman Sam Couchman, who was at the meeting that led to a 3-0 resolution to remove the proposal from the ballot, told the news provider that it would have increased business license fees for some companies in the Californian city, although other businesses would see no change.

Therefore, the issue could be put on hold, while the utility tax – that would be vital for maintaining city services – is seen as a priority.

In other news, Kurt Sawyer, interim city manager in Mesquite, Nevada, highlighted the importance of seeking the services of licensed professionals in order to be protected for any incident that might occur.
