Enumclaw agrees for state to help with business license processing

The Enumclaw City Council met earlier this week and agreed to a proposal for Washington State to help the city process its business license applications.

However, the move is controversial and Darrel Dickson, a candidate for City Council, asked for the decision to be delayed in order to give businesses in the city time to review the proposal.

“Not everyone on the council has even read it,” he said at the meeting, reported by the Patch.  “Before we pass a code, I think we should have all the answers.”

His appeal was denied, as many of the council members were concerned with the delays the proposal has already seen.

It was reported last month that the city council had chosen to postpone talks about the amendment as the proposals had only just been made.

The measure will come into effect beginning January 1 of next year and is expected to save between 90 and 120 hours of staff time each year. It will mean that all businesses operating in the city will have to obtain a permit.
