A proposal has been put forward to create a business license for firms that operate slot machines and other forms of entertainment in Laredo, Texas.
According to tax collector Patricia Barrera, the measure would bring in around $100,000 in revenue a year that can then be used by schools and government entities.
If the proposal is approved, businesses could see the permits introduced as soon as October and could also apply to establishments with jukeboxes, pool tables and video games, the Laredo Sun reports.
“This is something that is contemplated by the Texas state law and the program will pay for itself, the county will not need to invest,” she said.
The news provider stated that firms would have to pay $150 a year for the business license. This is in addition to a $15 decal for each slot machine and a general business license fee of $200-$500 a year.
Currently, there are around 57 slot machine businesses in Laredo.
