A case of business license deception has shocked a small hamlet in Marin County, California (CA).
Belvedere police Chief Patricia Seyler-Campbell explained that the felon in question not only did not possess a business license but “was using a fake business license number on a website that he advertised on the internet”, according to Mercury News.
She was alerted to the crime earlier this year when a woman called the police complaining that her father had been tricked into parting with $3,500.
According to the newspaper, the police contacted the company and said that if they returned the money there would be no further action, but the contractor declined and the police launched a further investigation.
Crime is rare in Belvedere, where the population is comprised of primarily 70 per cent of married adults, and boasts a higher number of females and retiree’s than most places.
The area also has a large number of season properties, perhaps accounting for its small criminal element.
