County officials in North Nevada want to simplify the process of obtaining a business license, with the overall goal of creating an all-encompassing regional business license.
The North Nevada Business Weekly reported that officials in Reno, Sparks and Washoe County are working together to create a one-stop-shop for business owners.
Under current procedure, any business located in one jurisdiction that conducts business in the other two jurisdictions must obtain three separate licenses.
While this won’t change, from January 2012 business owners will no longer have to apply at three different locations, but can benefit from information transfer procedures set up between business license offices in the three jurisdictions.
Steve Driscoll, assistant city manager with the City of Sparks, told North Nevada Business Weekly, “The goal is to make it as easy on the customer as possible. At least for this first phase we will have to do little more work behind the scenes, but that should be transparent to the customer.”
The state of Nevada aims to stimulate business expansion and retention by encouraging entrepreneurial enterprise.
It is hoped that by creating an all-encompassing regional business license, business expansion will be simplified and thus encouraged.
