Village faces civil suit following the attempted revocation of a business license

A civil suit has been filed against the village of West Orland Park, Illinois following the attempted revocation of a local’s business license.

Attorneys for the Belicosa Cigar Lounge claim that the village is trying to get rid of the business because the new owner Asma Saad is Arab American, according the newspaper Trib Local.

Associate attorney Jason Guisinger, who is representing the village, denies the claims and told the paper, “It’s the village’s position that the allegations are baseless and without merit and the village will be vigorously defending the lawsuit.

“We are seeking the revocation on the basis that Mr. Ghaddar [- the former president of Belicosa Cigar Lounge -] was convicted of a felony of tax evasion.”

Businesses with a commercial location in the village of Orland Park must obtain a license from the Development Services Department when starting a new business, relocating a business, expanding a business, and changing ownership of a business.

Under local ordinances, the village of Orland Park has the right to revoke a business license in the event that there is a felony conviction indicative of a business owner’s inability to operate a legitimate business in line with council regulations.
