The City of Warrenton, Oregon is being called upon to increase their enforcement of business licensing ordinances.
Members of the Warrenton Business Association have asked officials to invest in stricter enforcement of business license codes, according to the Daily Astorian, in an attempt to crack down on competitors that operate unlawfully and put legitimate companies at a disadvantage.
Steve Fulton, chairman of the Association, told the newspaper, “What we’re asking the city to do is … direct staff to take the steps necessary to enforce business license compliance throughout the city.”
Members also asked city officials to increase fines for those who operate without a business license to $350 and to direct the building department to withhold occupancy permits until a list of all subcontractors and their current business license numbers have been presented to the city.
Additionally, officials were asked to consider proposals to post business license requirements at all boat launches and to direct staff to look at the city code regarding real estate brokers and require all to have active business licenses.
