American Canyon mulls amnesty for businesses operating without license

An amnesty for firms operating without a business license in American Canyon, California has been proposed in a bid to reduce illegal operations.

Officials at the city council have proposed a four-month amnesty, during which time they hope operators will use the opportunity to comply with business license requirements, reports the Times Herald.

The 120-day amnesty has been recommended for March 1st to June 28th 2012.

However, the proposals are set to face a public hearing before they are enacted, where the potential implications of such a move can be properly discussed.

American Canyon lawmakers recently lost a case against Napa Valley Casino, having threatened to suspend the firm’s business license until it could demonstrate it was authorized to operate within the state.

Lawyers acting on behalf of the casino claimed it was wrong for the suspension to be threatened before a decision had been reached.
