The battle between the City of Peverly, Missouri and a local sex shop has escalated, following the move by the city to turn off the business’ water.
Pure Pleasure Boutique has taken the city to federal court over its refusal to grant the operation a business license.
The controversy began over a year ago when Don Kleinhan, owner of the store, opened up his business, despite the city refusing to grant a license to the proprietor.
Jason Eisenbeis, Peverly city administrator, told CBS St.Louis at the time that Mr. Kleinhan was denied a license because the store violated a local ordinance stating that a sexually orientated business is not allowed within 1,000 feet of an elementary school or church.
After taking Peverly to court, officials fought back against Mr. Kleinhan by turning off the store’s water, in the hope of forcing the business to close down.
However, Pure Pleasure remains undeterred and intends to stay open.
Prior to turning off the business’ water, Peverly officials had once again denied Mr. Kleinhan’s re-application for a license, St.Louis Today reported.
