Locals told to beware of unlicensed contractors in WA

Officials in the Tri-Cities of Washington are warning residents to beware of unlicensed contractors.

Homeowners must do their research before hiring a contractor to avoid shoddy jobs, the Tri City Herald reported, following a spate of construction complaints within the area.

Business licenses are essential for officials to monitor companies and ensure that their practices are up to scratch.

Those without licenses have not been approved by the council and there is a good chance that the reason for this will result in poor customer services and products.

In the Tri-Cities, contractors are required to have a city business license to do work within city limits and twice a year the Home Builders Association of Tri-Cities checks to confirm its members are registered and licensed.

Registered businesses can be found though the Association, which offers information about licensing and how to ensure contractors are legitimate, such as asking for references.
