Proprietors renewing their business license in Andalusia, Alabama will be faced with a new system.
Changes to how businesses pay their annual license fees are being tested for the first time, as the deadline for renewal looms, Andalusia Star News reports.
The city has contracted Revenue Discovery Systems to collect license fees in the area. The company are already responsible for gathering Andalusia’s rental, sales and lodging taxes.
License fees were previously handled ‘in-house’, but the new system is hoped to be more cost-effective and efficient, Andalusia city clerk John Thomson told the newspaper.
The decision to switch systems was prompted by a local study to determine how much time and cost was associated with the process.
Following the project, it was determined that outsourcing would be the most efficient means of business license collection.
For local business, the changes will put licensing processes in line with other city taxes and business costs.
Simplifying and making the system more efficient will also benefit business and reduce the administrative burden.
