Predatory towing leads to license revocation in Indianapolis

A towing company in Indianapolis, Indiana may have their license revoked for predatory behaviour.

City officials are looking to pull Interstate/Delaware and South Towing’s license following allegations that the company has continually violated city ordinances and caused citizens to complain.

On December 19th, the Department of Code Enforcement issued a notice to the business that they intend to revoke their license but Interstate/Delaware and South Towing have yet to respond.

If successful, the company will be unable to operate within the city for at least a year.

The action is the first test of a new city ordinance to combat predatory towing practices, which was introduced after multiple complaints over high retrieval fees and unwarranted towing.

Protecting consumers against being unlawfully towed from business areas is vital for the city to encourage economic activity.

Mayor Greg Ballard commented, “The towing ordinance was enacted to protect motorists from predatory practices.

“We will continue to hold business owners accountable for their actions and provide consumer protections that our residents and visitors deserve.”
