Small businesses in Gresham, Oregon can continue to benefit from license fee waivers.
Two programs introduced in the City in 2010 to ease the development of small businesses within the area have been extended for another year, OregonLive.com reported.
Since the schemes began, over 165 businesses, occupying more than 235,000 square feet of previously vacant storefront, have benefited from the incentives, which have saved entrepreneurs almost $98,000.
Speaking to the newsportal, mayor of Gresham Shane T Bemis stated, “This program has worked. It has created jobs, it has opened storefronts and it has created vibrancy.”
Eric Schmidt, community development director, added, “Since the incentive program started, downtown looks and feels different from even a year ago.”
Supporting small businesses is vital to promote economic growth across the country and stimulate local level activity.
Moreover, smaller companies are essential in meeting community needs and providing opportunities for jobs and key skills training.
