Beware of fake business inspectors in Kern County

Businesses in Kern County, California are being warned against the threat of rogue business inspectors.

With con-artists posing as inspectorate officials and taking money, companies are being warned to demand a business license from anybody who approaches them claiming to be an inspector, Kget.com reported.

Engineer Anthony Romero told the news portal, “When somebody approaches [a business], number one, have them identify themselves.

“Also, make sure they give … their certificate of registration or business license.”

This way, companies can verify the authenticity of an inspector, as all approved bodies will possess identification under local ordinances.

In order to verify the business license of an inspector, companies should contact their local Better Business Bureau, the local California State License Board and California State Fire Marshals.

Businesses must also refrain from paying cash, as other methods are easier to track should the inspector be a con-artist.

Moreover, local fire fighters are advising businesses to get a second opinion and not to be fooled by a professional appearance and the use of scare tactics.
