The number of home-based businesses in Lincoln, California is on the rise.
Some ten to 15 business license applications made each week in the city are on behalf of home-based companies, the Lincoln News Messenger reported.
The increase is the result of the current economic climate, according to Lincoln’s assistant city manager/chief financial officer Anna Jatczak.
“We think that since a lot of [license applications] are for home-based businesses, that people are maybe getting laid off of work and trying to start something from their homes,” she told the paper.
Currently, 2,000 business licenses are issued annually within Lincoln, generating approximately $87,000 revenue for the city.
A home-based business license costs $65 annually, comprised of a $30 license tax and a $35 home business application permit.
Small and micro businesses are key for growth in local communities, and are increasing in popularity as workers look to take control of their own lives in the economic climate.
