Officials in Wilmington, Delaware have been working to pull the license and force the shutdown of a local low-cost bus service, on the grounds of repeated highway safety violation.
Succeeding where the federal government has failed, despite issuing numerous shut down orders, the city of Wilmington has managed to close down Double Happyness Travel, Delaware Online reported.
The rogue bus company flouted several shutdown orders, changed its name to New Everyday Bus Tour and failed to file for a business license, and has been accused of poor vehicle maintenance, excessive driver hours and a lack of alcohol and controlled-substance testing.
When federal officials issued a restraining order last week mandating the company to close operations, the business tried once again to change its name, but Wilmington officials have refused to issue a business license until the federal case is resolved.
The council is allowed to deny a license if there is significant evidence to suggest that a company will be unable to run their business in conjunction with local ordinances.
