Licensing ordinances in Riverdale get ‘Fix-it’ clause

Business licensing ordinances in Riverdale, Utah now have a “Fix-it” clause, which will give proprietors time to amend a problem before facing license suspension or revocation.

The measure is designed to make life easier for local businesses by giving them 15 days to fix any concerns officials may have, the Standard Examiner reported.

Riverdale City Council approved the ordinance with a 3-2 vote, adding that if the changes are made in a satisfactory manner, appearance in front of the council will be unnecessary.

According to officials, the amendment will prevent businesses coming under scrutiny because of a complaint from a competitor or dissatisfied customer.

However, city attorney Steve Brooks stressed to the newspaper that the city very rarely shuts down a business.

“I would be very nervous shutting someone down unless I could justify it in front of a court,” he said.

The City of Riverdale is working towards business growth in the area and has attracted an array of new firms over the last year.
